Dengue Awareness Program at Chamakpur

Chamakpur, 23rd August 2018. Vidya Shakti Niyas recently organized a Dengue awareness campaign in the village of Chamkapur. The program was organized at the Chamakpur High School. More than 100 children from nearby villages attended the program. Dr Arabinda Panda conducted the session with insight on the causes of Dengue and the measures to check its spread during the rainy seasons. The program was supported by VSN staff, township volunteers and villagers. The program was highly appreciated by the school management and parents.

Drawing Competition at Girls’s School

13th July 2018, Basudevpur. A drawing competition was organized by Vidya Shakti Niyas at the Girls’ High School in the village of Basudevpur. The young artists in different groups created beautiful drawings & sketches on various themes like scenery & natural life. The event saw a multitude of talented prodigies showing great promise to take up fine arts in their future academic careers. Present during the event were Mrs Ratna Chattopadhyay, Trustee along with several volunteers from the township.

Dengue Awareness at Anseikala

7th July 2018, Anseikala. Vidya Shakti Niyas organized a program on prevention of Dengue at the Maa Santoshi High School, in the village of Anseikala. Dr Arabinda Panda took a session on the causes of the dreaded disease. Discussion was made on precautions and remedial treatment during emergencies. The importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic neighborhood was stressed. Around 300 students attended the program. Also present were several VSN volunteers who help organize the event successfully.

Dengue Prevention Program

Juglidhar, 29th June 2018. Vidya Shakti Niyas organized a Dengue Awareness program in the village of Juglidhar, under Kandara Gram Pandhayat recently. The program focused on the dreaded killer and various approaches to combat it through prevention, precaution and in case of sickness, adequate treatment. Around 35 villagers from the community attended the program. The program was conducted by Dr Arabinda Panda along with VSN staff & volunteers. The program was highly praised by local villagers.

Rice Crop Farming Training

Bileipada, 21st June 2018. Vidya Shakti Niyas organized a rice farming training for local villagers. The program was organized at VSN Training Hall, Bileipada. Rice farming expert Mr German Sethi, ex Village Agriculture Worker, conducted the program. Around 65 farmers from the villages of Chamakpur, Ramchandrapur, Panchananpur & Lahanda attended the program. The program covered various aspects of rice farming including variety of seeds, sowing techniques, cultivation, care & upkeep of the harvest. Present during the event were Mrs Rosalie Mishra, Secretary (VSN) along with Mr AC Nayak, Mr Mahesh Rathi, Mrs Ratna Chattopadhyay (all Trustees) and VSN staff & volunteers.

Vermicompost Training

Bileipada, 11th June 2018. Vermicomposting is the decomposition of organic material by earthworms. Excellent quality compost can be produced in ambient temperature conditions within short time using the process. Vermicompost plays an important role in improving growth and yield of different field crops like vegetables, flowers & fruit crops. Commercial production of vermicompost has turned out to be a profitable business in recent years. To help small farming households living in the periphery take advantage of the same, Vidya Shakti Niyas recently organized a vermicompost training program for local villagers in its Training Hall. Mr S Sahoo & Mr P Pradhan, both experts in the subject, conducted the training. More than 47 villagers attended the program. Prominent guests present during the occasion included Mr R Somnath, Head (CSR, BE & S), Mrs Ratna Chattopadhyay, Mr Abinash Nayak, Mr Mahesh Rathi (all Trustees, VSN) along with several volunteers.

Poultry Farming Training

Panchananpur, 31st May 2018. Vidya Shakti Niyas has been promoting the local community facilitating training & awareness on various lucrative and financially rewarding business ideas. Recently a program on poultry farming was organized in the village of Panchananpur in this direction. The program was conducted by Mr P Mahanta, an expert in poultry farming from Champua. The best practices as well as approaches for better income through the business was discussed. Around 20 ladies & men from the nearby villages benefited from the program. Mrs Rosalie Mishra, Secretary (VSN) along with volunteers attended the program.

Health Awareness Camp at Karansahi

6th April 2018. Vidya Shakti Niyas organized a health awareness program in the village of Karansahi recently. The program was organized in the village Anganwadi. Around 54 ladies from the nearby villages attended the program conducted by Dr Arabinda Panda. The program focused on cause & effects of sun stroke and various remedial measures to avoid illness due to over exposure to heat. A question & answer session was conducted during the program to generate audience interest. Token prizes were given for best respondents. Several VSN volunteers were present to make the program successful.

SHG Training

Bileipada, 11th April 2018. Vidya Shakti Niyas has been promoting Self Help Groups across the region with various initiatives. Recently a training program for various SHG members was organized at Vidya Shakti Training Hall. An informative session was taken by Mr Trilochan Palei, Dy Manager (CSR). Financial aspects of SHG, cash book maintenance, book keeping etc were explained in simple language to the attendees. 25 lady members from three SHGs namely Maa Tarini SHG, Maa Mangala SHG & Gouri Shankar SHG attended the program. Also present during the event were Mrs Rosalie Mishra (Secretary) & Mrs S Tripathy (then Trustee) and other volunteers.

Family Planning Awareness

Lahanda, 24 March 2018. Vidya Shakti Niyas organized a Family Planning Awareness program in the village of Lahanda. The program was organized in the UGME school premises. Around 47 ladies from nearby villages attended the meeting. The benefits of family planning, mother & child healthcare were explained during the session. Various queries regarding the subject were clarified. Dr Arabinda Panda, Mrs Rosalie Mishra, Secretary (VSN), Mrs Jolly Pattnaik, Mrs Snigdha Tripathy (both Trustees) were joined by other volunteers in organizing the event.
